Anxiety Therapy in Lehi
Are You Exhausted From Being Worried All The Time?
Do you or your child often feel panicked, short of breath, or afraid that something bad will happen?
Is constant worry keeping you from trying new things, connecting in your relationships, or interfering with your overall quality of life?
Do you find it difficult to relax or feel clear and confident?
Anxiety symptoms vary, but a common theme is a feeling of unease and an inability to feel secure in your decisions, your relationships, and yourself. You may think your anxiety is just physical, but in reality, it is likely impacting your emotional, mental, relational, and physical wellbeing.
Physical symptoms—including trouble breathing, dry mouth, dizziness, and intense feelings of dread—can occur, and in some cases, panic attacks may happen. These symptoms can make it difficult or even impossible to relax, and it’s common to wake frequently or have fitful sleep.
Anxiety Symptoms Change With Age
For children, anxiety often presents as extreme worry and separation anxiety, which can look like excessive clinging or dependence, tantrums, and irritability.
As you get older, symptoms can develop into difficulty concentrating, fidgeting, feeling restless, and maintaining healthy, fulfilling relationships. People-pleasing behaviors are common, and there is often a lot of concern about what people think of you or replaying conversations in your head.
At Willow Shore Counseling, we specialize in therapy for adults and children six and older who may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety. Whether you or your child are having a hard time staying present, managing emotions, or trusting in your decisions, our therapists can help you slow down so you can learn to live with less fear and anxiety.
Do You Have Questions About Anxiety Therapy?

What Is Anxiety And Why Does It Happen?
Anxiety is a tool for survival, and it’s something we all experience when we’re anticipating or preparing for a challenge. But if left unchecked, an anxious mindset can become the default as we lose sight of more realistic, balanced ways of thinking and feeling.
Our environments can also make anxiety symptoms worse. There is a lot of pressure to succeed in our culture, and there are many expectations wrapped up in gender, ethnic/religious background, and socioeconomic status. The juggle of it all is stressful enough as is, but in today’s world, we seem to be facing more economic, political, and global uncertainty than ever.
For kids and teens who have lived their whole lives in the “age of information,” there have been very few opportunities to unplug. Social media has created an entirely new way of interacting among adolescents, and a lot of social anxiety stems from comparison culture and cyberbullying.
Anxiety Is Treatable
Anxiety disorders—including phobias, social anxiety, and generalized anxiety—are some of the most common mental health struggles experienced by individuals of all backgrounds, but treatment is available. Working with a therapist, you can trace symptoms back to the source as you build a more effective toolkit for coping.
Willow Shore Counseling Specializes In Therapy For Anxiety
Our counseling services are here to support you no matter where you find yourself—whether you’re navigating major life transitions, long-standing anxiety patterns, or the everyday stress of managing everything on your plate.
Using an individualized, multilayered approach that addresses symptoms at the source, we want to help you or your child learn how to reduce stress and feel more at peace.
What To Expect
While therapy will look different for each client depending on age, goals, and existing coping skills, some of the approaches we’re likely to incorporate into anxiety treatment are:
Mindfulness, deep breathing, and other bodywork or movement to facilitate calm
Behavioral approaches—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)—to reframe unhelpful thoughts, manage emotions, and tolerate distress
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to target anxiety symptoms that are the result of trauma or PTSD
Internal Family Systems (IFS) to access the Self and heal wounded parts within
Throughout the process, your therapist will ensure that you understand the connection between anxious thinking patterns and the way you feel. And if it’s decided that anxiety medication would be useful in conjunction with therapy, we are happy to work with your doctor or refer you to a licensed prescriber.
A Brighter, More Hopeful Future Is Possible
Imagine if you or your child could wake up without immediately worrying about what’s ahead.
Imagine going out of your comfort zone and actually attending the party.
It is possible to live your day without chronic stress and worry—and to feel capable of facing your fears with confidence. While life will never be entirely free of obstacles, you can achieve sustained peace, resilience, and joy in this process.
Common Questions About Therapy For Anxiety
-
This is a common concern. While it can sometimes be uncomfortable to unpack tough emotions, it’s a natural part of healing. We often remind our clients that getting to the other side where the light is sometimes requires a quick trip through the tunnel.
That said, we’ll make sure you or your child have what’s needed so that you can manage anxiety spikes throughout counseling. As you learn to cope with the tough parts of the process, you’re likely to notice more and more relief as time goes on.
-
Though you’ll probably begin to see progress during therapy sessions, this process works best when skills are being practiced at home. As you notice a reduction in disruptive symptoms and increased motivation to do things that once seemed overwhelming, that’s a good indicator that you are moving in the right direction!
-
If your child or teen is coming to us for struggles with anxiety, our therapists will work with you and them to collaborate on a plan for involving you in their treatment. Some children benefit from having a parent present, while other kids (particularly teens) may feel like they can only make progress if counseling is private.
We want to make sure you, the parent, feel comfortable about therapy and aware of the limits of confidentiality. We do feel updates are important and will involve you in ways that are beneficial to your child.
